Map
The ride will start from Bidbury recreation ground, Bedhampton, at 10.00am. Here there is free parking and public toilets. We will cycle to Compton via Rowlands Castle, Finchdean and Idsworth. After a right turn just past Idsworth church, there is a long, steady climb. We will look out for interesting wildflowers on route and stop now and then to identify them. Riders may like to bring a pen and the "i-spy wildflowers" booklet with them to note the ones we see.
If Compton village store is bursting with customers, we could continue for a mile further and have coffee at The Victoria PH, West Marden, although, alas, no cake!
From there we continue on the B2147 to Westbourne, then Emsworth. In Emsworth we will visit Brook Meadow, a small local nature reserve. After that, lunch can be eaten in Emsworth, then we'll return to Bidbury.
The pace of the ride will be modest, a moving speed averaging about 10 mph. Total distance of the ride will be about 25 miles.

Ride leader notes
I joined PCTC in 1986 and have enjoyed club rides ever since. I have two Mercian touring road bikes, a Trek hybrid and a carbon -fibre Specialized Ruby racing bike.
I am considering buying an electric bike, as I find hills a bit tiring now. My usual average moving speed is 10 to 11mph. If I'm riding in the urban environment and have to keep stopping, or if it's very hilly, my average may drop below 10mph.
Although I used to do a lot of long distance rides (Audax PBP & LEL, S.R. Le JoG, etc. I generally prefer rides of 30 to 50 miles these days. A refreshment stop is a must!
About Pop-up rides
We have certain days when we try to organise regular rides. However, individual ride leaders can create pop-up rides for any day and time.
The small size of some pop-up rides means we might be unable to split a ride if you get into difficulties. We will do all we can to escort you back to the start point, but please be prepared to navigate yourself home or to call for support from a partner, relative or friend.
