Map

If you fancy getting in the 100 miles, but don't want any hills, then this is the route for you. The pace will be a relaxed 10-11 mph.

Preparation: This is a long ride so come prepared with plenty to drink and energy snacks as
required. Both the outward and the return journey are flat. Please ensure your bike is well prepared and suitable for the ride, comfort being all important😊. Please carry waterproof jackets!

Please bring a picnic lunch with you - Brighton will be busy and we will only have a 30 mins stop for lunch, we can get a takeaway coffee/tea at one of the many outlets along the seafront. We will stop somewhere near Brighton pier/i360 for our lunch stop.

There are toilets available at Worthing, Littlehampton, Bognor Regis and Chichester. The ride will terminate at Rowlands Castle, so be prepared to make your way home from there.

We will make our way from The Spring Centre at Havant at 08.00, to Chichester via Westbourne, and Woodmancote, then through Chichester and drop down into Bognor Regis. Then onto Littlehampton and follow the King Charles III coastal path to Worthing, go inland a bit at Shoreham (to avoid the busy road), then along to Hove and finally into Brighton. Coffee stop at Rustington (27 miles) and lunch at Brighton (50 miles). On the return journey, we can again stop at Rustington.

There are some busy sections, ie along the A259, but we will be on the cycle path. Also when cycling along the promenade at Brighton, Hove, Worthing and Bognor Regis, there will be lots of pedestrians who don't realise that they are on a cycle path, also you have to watch out for other cyclists/scooters coming towards you - so you need to keep a careful eye out. There are toilets at Worthing, Littlehampton, Bognor Regis and Chichester.

After we have had our fill of Brighton, we will return the same way back - but things always look different when coming in a different direction!

I would expect to get back to Rowlands Castle approx 19.00 - but this is flexible depending upon how tired some may feel. If you don't fancy cycling back, then there is the option to catch the train from Brighton back to Havant.

There is a new version of the GPX file as the route has now been recce'd and gpx file updated.

About Wednesday rides

Wednesday rides usually start from Havant with stops for elevenses, lunch and sometimes tea. If you're unable to keep up or have a mechanical problem, someone will be available to help you - although we obviously cannot guarantee to solve all problems.

Wednesday rides usually provide a range of options to riders as we'll try to arrange multiple rides with different paces, distance and degree of hilliness.

On Wednesdays it is likely that there will be several riders coming back to the Havant area after an elevenses stop - although they might not include a PCTC ride leader. If that is what you'd like to do, please consult the ride organiser before the day of the ride to ensure someone knows and is able to bring you back.
