Map
The hill climb event will be contested first. It will take place up the road passing the entrance to Stansted house and going to Forestside. The start will be from the Stansted Sawmill (OS Landranger Map 196, Map reference 754100). It will finish after approximately 1.4 miles (2.25km) and 210ft (64m) at the community hall near to Forestside church (OS Landranger Map 196, Map Reference 756122).
The freewheel event will start below the hill climb finish at the first part of the hill with a slope enough to allow freewheeling to start. If anyone reaches the fork in the road they are to go left.
There is a separate category for tandems and e-bikes for the freewheel competition.
For the climb, the rules are that each competitor states their anticipated time to complete the course. The course is ridden without watches in a visible or easily accessible position and with cycle computers removed. Each competitor is timed over the course and the competitor with the time nearest to their estimate is the winner.
For the freewheel competition the bicycle cranks are secured to prevent pedalling and the competitor starts down the hill from a set point. The place where they have to put a foot down is marked. The winner is the competitor who has travelled the furthest distance before putting a foot down. If the pedal securing is found to be broken at the finish the competitor is disqualified.
The entry fee again is an inflation busting 50p per event. Competitors may enter more than once (by paying additional entry fees).
Participants may meet up at the Havant Old Town Hall at 18.30 and cycle to the start as a group or meet at Stansted Sawmill at 19.15.
Hot Dogs (& vegetarian option), cakes, beer and soft drinks all for the princely sum of £3 per person. If you are coming and want food and/or drink please let Phil or Roy know at least 24 hours beforehand. There will be a bit of food and drink extra but those who have “ordered” will have preference.
These are fun events with trophies for the winners. Usually, the fiercely competed downhill event is very entertaining. Come and join in. If you feel that either event may be too strenuous, come and watch, and enjoy the pleasant socialising afterwards.
