About Pop-up rides
During the Covid-19 emergency, we are allowed by the UK Government and Cycling UK to organise small rides.
The size of our regular pre-emergency rides make it impractical for us to return to regular riding for the time being. Instead, individual ride leaders can create pop-up rides for any day and time, as long as they do it at least a full day ahead of time. People can then ask the ride leader for permission to join their ride. Leaders have complete discretion who they invite to join. It is vital that you do not join a pop-up ride unless you are invited by the ride leader, or your name appears in the booking list shown for each ride.
You should also not join a ride if you you are shielding as an extremely vulnerable person (or living with an extremely vulnerable person) or if you have a possible or confirmed Covid-19 infection.
If you receive an invitation, please do your best to join the ride because you might be taking a place that could have been used by someone else. Unless you have a good reason for not turning up, you might find it difficult to join future rides.
When you join a ride, you must exercise social distancing - relatively easy on a bike, but please take extra care when we stop and at junctions. Unless the leader tells you otherwise, you should assume all pop-up rides are self-catering; please bring the food and drink you'll need with you. Note that it might not be possible to find toilet facilities on route - you might have to 'rough it'.
The small size of rides means we might be unable to split a ride if you get into difficulties. We will do all we can to escort you back to the start point, but please be prepared to navigate yourself home or to call for support from a partner, relative or friend.
If you are out on your bike and you see one of our pop-up rides, you can ask the ride leader if you can join provided it doesn't exceed the limit set by Government (currently six riders), Please respect the leader's decision if you are not allowed to join.
There is more guidance on what we are allowed to do in the emergency here.
