Another option to ride on the Isle of Wight both outward and return routes on the car ferry (I'm not sure I'll get my recumbent trike on the Catamaran!)

We'll start off on the car ferry with Martyn's ride but will then go to Cowes following the round the Island route, then head south Newport on the Red Squirrel trail. We'll then take the old railway route to Sandown passing the Pedallers cafe (17 Miles from Ferry) where we'll stop for elevenses or early lunch.

We'll continue on to Sandown, then on to Bembridge and then back to Fishbourne on the round the Island route. Lunch as and when agreed at the time.

Timings -
Meet - IoW car ferry, Portsmouth: 09.00
Embark - IoW car ferry: 09.20
Arrive - Fishbourne: 10.05
Pedallers cafe about 12 noon -1230.
Lunch when we get there
Return ferry. 16:20 probably, arrives the Hard 17.05 or later one.

Total distance on Island 36 miles.

I will attempt to firm up the route & times before the day.

Ride leader notes

I am about recovered from my accident in early September 2025, but am riding a recumbent trike to reduce the risk of falling. i am now slower, but trying to get back to longer rides. I have a new e-trike which is somewhat faster than the other one - around 11 mph

I record my speed on a Hammerhead Karoo bike computer and the speeds I give reflect what i have recorded over the past few months.

I 'm not keen on urban riding and prefer the countryside of the Downs to the north, west and east of us. Although I'm not a particularly good climber I don't shy away from hills as i think flat rides can be less interesting.

I sometimes lead morning only rides on a Friday for all-comers. On these rides I arrange groups to suit the pace of all riders.

I generally start my rides at the Spring Centre in Havant but will pick up on the route on request. I finish my rides here too although you are welcome to leave the ride elsewhere e.g.nearer to your home.

About Wednesday rides

Wednesday rides usually start from Havant with stops for elevenses, lunch and sometimes tea. If you're unable to keep up or have a mechanical problem, someone will be available to help you - although we obviously cannot guarantee to solve all problems.

Wednesday rides usually provide a range of options to riders as we'll try to arrange multiple rides with different paces, distance and degree of hilliness.

On Wednesdays it is likely that there will be several riders coming back to the Havant area after an elevenses stop - although they might not include a PCTC ride leader. If that is what you'd like to do, please consult the ride organiser before the day of the ride to ensure someone knows and is able to bring you back.
