PCTC Update - 7 August 2026

Welcome to another fine Friday

We had a fine array of items posted and received this week. Starting with the forums, we have:

  • Alan has highlighted a very useful service should you find yourself in cycling trouble and far from nearby assistance, see here.
  • See Lester's experience and advice after a visit to the Quantocks here.
  • Mobility scooter anyone? See here. (no I am happy with my Ribble before anyone asks!)
  • Hayling Ferry 10 years old! See here.
  • Warning of a future temporary closure of the Woodmancote Pub here.
  • Volunteers required for the CCP Audax and Coastal Jaunt. See here.
  • Ride and Stride anyone? invite to cycle groups for R&S + QR code (1)

In case you haven't seen this message from Terry:

The next version of the Portsmouth CTC magazine - The Pedal is due shortly:

  • 1st March - Spring Edition
  • 1st June - Summer Edition
  • >> 1st September - Autumn Edition <<
  • 1st December - Winter Edition

Please consider submitting a piece for publication. That may be rides you have completed or plan to undertake, technical cycle pieces, purchases, reviews, etc. or perhaps a letter to the editor with a question you've always wanted answered!

Note: Please remember the magazine will be available to view by non-members, so please consider this when submitting articles and how you want your details to be viewed.

As always, a little technical guidance:

Consider writing short to the point articles as well as longer pieces, with a word count limit of 800 words. That’s not a target by the way, if you only have a few words to put down that is just as good - if not better

Don’t worry about formatting, fonts or font sizes I’ll take care of all that, but if you want headings and sub-headings just make it clear what they are.

Please include any pictures to support your submission, but make sure they are your own or you have permission to use them, due to copyright rules!

As above, the publishing date for the next edition of The Pedal is the 1st September.

** The final deadline for all submissions is the Sunday 23rd August **

Thanks as always for your support.

PCTC Update - 19 June 2026

Hello, as the longest day approaches a fair bit of news to pass on.

Don't forget next week sees the annual Hill Climb and Freewheel competition on the evening of Thursday 26th June. Click on link here for details.

Also, the three day Chase the Sun ride departs today albeit being now for just a brave few due to unfortunate circumstances. Sadly Chris the organiser who has spent so much time putting this event together cannot lead because of family concerns. Wishing all the best from the club to Chris and Andy. See link here for event details.

News in the club:

  • Feedback from the recent Stowford camp here.
  • Help with the Club history required for the 50's and 60's here.
  • Share your experiences with camping stoves here.
  • Some technical update/advice from Andy here.
  • TV viewing advice for forthcoming cycling events here
  • Update on the Epic Rides series can be found here.
  • Advice regards a cycle route near Slindon here.
