Chase the Sun - Version 2 - shorter and slower - 19-21 June, 2026

If you liked the idea of Phil's Chase the Sun next June, 2026, but were put off by the distances and the speed, then Joy and I are proposing a shorter and slower ride but still following Phil’s route, (however, we don’t go as far as Ramsgate/Dover), but we do chase the sun on the longest day on the way back.

Friday, 19th June: We start from Rowlands where there is plenty of parking to leave a car for a couple of days if you wish to drive to the start. We then cycle to Tunbridge Wells via Midhurst, 70 miles, and stay at The Mercure Hotel. Stopping along the way for coffee/lunch stops. The speed will be approx 10-11 mph throughout the 3 days and will be a relaxing tour.

Saturday, 20th June: We then set off from Tunbridge Wells and cycle to Rye which is a very pretty historic village where we can grab lunch then cycle down to Eastbourne (60 miles). There is a lot of choice of hotels at Eastbourne at roughly £65/night. Option for swim after the cycle ride. Evening meal in the town - there are lots of restaurants/cafes etc. As this is crossing the High Weald, there will be some hills, but I will avoid where possible any steep hills. Hotel for Eastbourne is: Afton Hotel.

Sunday, 21st June: From Eastbourne we cycle back home to Havant (68 miles) - obviously this is a flat route as it is along the coast. However, if anyone is tired, then there is the option to catch a train at the many railway stations on the way back. It is possible that Phil’s Ramsgate/Dover group will catch us up somewhere along the way.

Both hotels above are happy to take bikes. Hotel bookings will be down to individuals to book, and I would suggest using booking.com as you do not have to pay upfront, also go for free cancellation and if you use your mobile to book, it comes out slightly cheaper.

GPX Route to be uploaded later.
