Map
We'll go to Brighton and back, flat out along the coast, then a hilly return over the Devil's Dyke, around the Steyning Bowl, and back over the Downs at Amberley.
The ride will start at 09h30 at Chichester railway station. More Westerly based riders may wish to use the 08h35 from Fareham, arriving in Chichester at 09h06, or the 08h56 from Fareham arrives Chichester at 09h22. John will lead an informal ride to Chichester from the bus stop just East of the roundabout on the A259 in central Emsworth, beginning at 08h45.
The round trip Chichester to Chichester is about 130 km, crossing the River Arun at Littlehampton and the Adur at Shoreham. Added interest includes a tour of the semi-private estates around Goring (watch out for Art Deco and Modernist houses, some interesting architect designed new-builds as well as a whole swathe of bungalows from the 1930s - 1950s). Elevenses are on the beach at the wonderful Bluebird Cafe, followed by a ride around the locks and docks of Shoreham Harbour; a converted railway line leads us into the Downs where we find spectacular views from our lunch stop at Devil's Dyke; then a meander through lanes North of the South Downs, onwards around the Steyning Bowl before returning home via West Chiltington, Amberley and Slindon. We will stop for tea at the RSPB site at Wiggonholt or in Amberley depending on progress and need.
