RIDE POSTPONED ONE DAY
This will be a short, easy ride for those who would like to see a few Early Purple Orchids. They may have disappeared by the time of my next Wild Flower ride on 9th June.
We can meet INSIDE the Ferry Boat Inn, Hayling Island, on Saturday, 22nd May, at 11.15am. The ferry leaves from the Eastney side at 10.55am. Ferry costs £2.75 for a single fare. (Contactless payment preferred.) After enjoying a coffee/tea we will need to walk for about 20 - 30 minutes along the sea front to the site where orchids can be seen. You are advised to bring some shoes suitable for walking on shingle, ie NOT your best, cleated cycle shoes! My husband, Bill, has kindly offered to stay at the Ferry Boat Inn guarding all our bikes while we are walking.
Early Purple Orchid is a "top spot" in our i-spy booklet, 25 points!
After seeing the orchids we will return to the Ferry Boat Inn. From there I could lead anyone who'd like to ride to Northney, where we could have lunch at Northney farm tea room. Following lunch, I could lead to The Eastern Road cycle way and back to Eastney.

Ride leader notes
I joined PCTC in 1986 and have enjoyed club rides ever since. I have two Mercian touring road bikes, a Trek hybrid and a carbon -fibre Specialized Ruby racing bike.
I am considering buying an electric bike, as I find hills a bit tiring now. My usual average moving speed is 10 to 11mph. If I'm riding in the urban environment and have to keep stopping, or if it's very hilly, my average may drop below 10mph.
Although I used to do a lot of long distance rides (Audax PBP & LEL, S.R. Le JoG, etc.) I generally prefer rides of 30 to 50 miles these days. A refreshment stop is a must!
About Saturday rides
Saturday rides tend to be small ones. Typically we offer fewer options for rides than Wednesdays, but more flexibility for routes and destinations.
Most rides are morning only, riding out to a stop for elevenses and back again.
Some will be full day with stops for elevenses, lunch and, possibly, tea. If you want to join a full day ride but only to elevenses and need someone to help you with the route back, please let us know in advance of the ride in case someone else that knows the route wants to do the same.
This article describes what you should consider bringing with you on one of these rides.
