The first attempt was washed out, so Mike has obtained a dispensation from Cycling UK to re-run it...
This event is one of the national Cycling UK Triennial Veterans (Tri-Vets) rides. Riders who are 50 or older on the day who complete 100K (60 miles) within 12 hours will qualify for a certificate and a memorial badge.
You don't need to be a 'veteran' to join the ride, however. It will be a normal club ride and everyone is welcome to join in. You don't have to complete the 100K either. The route will be a figure of eight. We'll start by going to Bishop's Waltham for elevenses. We'll then head back to Havant for lunch. We'll then go to West Dean for tea finally returning to Havant having achieved 100K. You could, however, treat the first part of the ride as an 'elevenses' ride and not do the West Dean bit.
There is no fee to join the ride - normal ride guidelines apply. We will not be providing any food. We'll stop in Bishop's Waltham for elevenses (we use two coffee shops in particular) and in Havant for lunch where there are several cafés and pubs, as well as picnic possibilities. West Dean Garden Centre is a popular stop for us - offers a wide selection of cakes and beverages.
About Saturday and Wednesday rides
Rides from Havant with stops for elevenses, lunch and sometimes tea. Average speed is 11-
If you'd prefer not to do the full day ride, you're welcome to join us as far as the elevenses stop and come back from there. Please make sure the ride leader knows that's what you intend to do so we can make sure someone is available to come back with you.
Larger rides split into multiple groups:
- A fast group that takes a longer and/or hillier route to the elevenses stop
- The rest of the main ride which takes a more direct route to the elevenses stop
- An elevenses ride comprised of riders going only to elevenses; the elevenses ride will have its own ride leader and might go to a different destination if the route to the main elevenses destination is long and/or hilly
The rides are informal and riders are free to join and leave the ride at various points. Some ride directly to the elevenses stop.
