Meet at the IOW car ferry in Old Portsmouth at 08.45 for 9am ferry.
Snack/breakfast on the ferry as no elevenses stop. We will follow the Round the Island route clockwise i.e go east first towards Bembridge. Lunch at Niton at 27 miles - probably the Buddle Inn. We'll stop at Yarmouth for tea, a further 18 miles, and then back to the ferry (further 20 miles) which goes every hour on the hour. Its a long and hilly ride and we may be back late - I'm not expecting to get the return ferry until 1800.
Current forecast is good - you may even need the sunscreen!
Ride leader notes
I am about recovered from my accident, early September 2025, but am riding a recumbent trike to reduce the risk of falling. i am now slower, but trying to get back to longer rides. I am awaiting a new e-trike which hopefully will be somewhat faster than the 10 -11 mph that I do now.
I record my speed on a Hammerhead Karoo bike computer and the speeds I give reflect what i have recorded over the past few months.
I 'm not keen on urban riding and prefer the countryside of the Downs to the north, west and east of us. Although I'm not a particularly good climber I don't shy away from hills as i think flat rides can be less interesting.
I sometimes lead morning only rides on a Friday for all-comers. On these rides I arrange groups to suit the pace of all riders.
I generally start my rides at the Spring Centre in Havant but will pick up on the route on request. I finish my rides here too although you are welcome to leave the ride elsewhere e.g.nearer to your home.
About Tuesday rides
The Tuesday rides are typically 60-80 miles at a moderately fast pace while maintaining the social nature of the Saturday and Wednesday rides. The rides will start at various locations to be determined by the individual ride leader.
