Ride leader notes
I joined PCTC in 1986 and have enjoyed club rides ever since. I have a Mercian touring road bike, a Trek hybrid and a carbon -fibre Specialized Ruby racing bike. I have also now bought an electric bike, as I find hills a bit tiring. It is a Pashley Roadfinder, with drop bars.
My usual average moving speed is 10 to 11mph. If I'm riding in the urban environment and have to keep stopping, or if it's very hilly, my average may drop below 10mph.
I used to do a lot of long distance rides (Audax PBP & LEL, RRtY, S.R. Le JoG, etc.) I have cycled from the west (Pacific) coast to the east (Atlantic) coast of the USA. These days I generally prefer rides of 30 to 50 miles and a refreshment stop is a must!
About Pop-up rides
We have certain days when we try to organise regular rides. However, individual ride leaders can create pop-up rides for any day and time.
The small size of some pop-up rides means we might be unable to split a ride if you get into difficulties. We will do all we can to escort you back to the start point, but please be prepared to navigate yourself home or to call for support from a partner, relative or friend.
