Map
58 miles
11-12 mph
Starting from Mendip bunkhouse we'll go the same route as Phil to Glastonbury Tor for elevenses, 16.5 miles.
Then we head west out to the Levels - Kings Sedgemoor Drain, and Shapwick nature reserve, so its extremely flat! This ride covers a lot of the Somerset Levels which is amazing for wildlife.
Stopping at The Duck pub at Burtle (28 miles) for lunch. Described by reviewers as being "in the middle of nowhere" on the Somerset Levels. As a precaution, it might be a good idea to purchase lunchtime snacks/sandwiches in Glastonbury - in case the pub is closed or not serving food. We go through Shepton Mallet on our return, so another possible tea stop.
There is a hill to get back to the bunkhouse though.

Ride leader notes
I have 2 bikes: an Orbea e-bike and a Specialised Ruby bike that has had Cytronex fitted to provide electric assist. I like to have a pace of around 10-12 mph, preferring slower than fast. I don't mind hills, but try to keep the ascent to a sensible level.
My preferred distance is 40-50 miles, but I'm equally happy to do shorter rides.
About Pop-up rides
We have certain days when we try to organise regular rides. However, individual ride leaders can create pop-up rides for any day and time.
The small size of some pop-up rides means we might be unable to split a ride if you get into difficulties. We will do all we can to escort you back to the start point, but please be prepared to navigate yourself home or to call for support from a partner, relative or friend.
