Just to clarify, I think Andy’s saying that the problem is with Virgin Media or NTL World email addresses, not PCTC Amazon mail service.

If your email is Virgin or NTL, you can easily create your own personal email address, like wilf@forrow.com, for about £10 a year, or gmail for free. You can then use it on Virgin broadband or any other.

I have signed this petition because hopfull it will lead to cycling infostructure because where I am there is no all weather cycling infostructure.
The local authority are not willing to build cycling infostructure dispite the very desperate need for it. The other is we would need to convert foot parths or purchase land to build cycling infostructure. I understand it unpopular thing to do but motor ways, bye passes are built so why not cycling infostructure.
I don't like shured cycle and footpaths because its unfair on padestrans and it creates conflict.

Couldn't agree more Stephen - I get this pushback all the time, especially from the councillors who make the decisions. Difficult to justify public money if it's going to be wasted.

My reply to them is to make cycle paths as good and fast as the roads, then people will use them.

Be careful for what you vote for because of unintended consequences. Much of existing infrastructure is at best tedious and slow and sometimes more dangerous than the road. There is no requirement to use cycle paths but some motorists expect us to use them whatever the condition and try to bully us into using them. Better access is a worthy aim but don't suggest we should be instructed to get off the road. Sometimes we need to make headway for variety of reasons and not all cycling is for leisure purposes.

It would be nice to see cyclists making use of the cycle paths already in existence. very difficult to convince the authorities for more infrastructure when we don't use what is already provided. I would like Cycling UK to tell their members to use them where reasonably practicable.

In my limited experience farmers suffer from people wandering off the footpaths, unwittingly or uncaringly damaging those farmers’ livelihoods. I wonder, is there anything to those farmers’ advantage that might come from or be offered to them as part of, an opening-up to cyclists?

Phil Nelson points out that barriers can cause both injury and erosion of the surface.

When the barriers were installed over the A3M in Park Lane Cowplain I was consulted and replied on behalf of the DA stating that they were totally unnecessary as the path on the North side to the shops was narrow and motorcycles could access the bridleway by other means.

Needless to say they were installed in a manner which makes it very difficult to ride through and I have seen cyclists fall during the manoeuvre.

Where pedestrian and cycle traffic enters and exits there is significant wear on the surface causing puddling when wet, another hazard.

Regarding the second one, the guys working on Copse Lane recently said the ‘Road closed’ signs weren’t supposed to include cyclists. As you know, we routinely encounter closed roads that are not closed to cyclists. I’m guessing the problem is that the road signs don’t come with an ‘except cyclists’ option.

1) Have they worked well elsewhere?
2) Can't comment on fob versus phone for others, but would prefer phone
3) Agreed £30 doesn't seem much but to some people it is. Perhaps a quarterly charge would buffer it a bit. Pay as you go better.

Not sure I would use it, as with most cycle shopping trips into Havant, I like to lock up my bike as close as possible to the shop I am visiting and usually I am there for only a short time minimising the theft risk. On some occasions if I have more than one shop to visit I move the bike to each location (even between Halfords and Tesco which both have Sheffield Stands). If HBC have money to spend on cycle lockups then I suggest more Sheffield stands at the Meridian Centre south entrance where there is only 2, both being in regular use. If HBC want to get more cyclists visiting Havant then the money would be better spent improving cycle routes such as the non existent one going past the Langstone Technology Park.
As far as cycle commuters working in or near Havant, who need all day secure cycle lock ups, then I should be up to the employer to provide facilities at the workplace.

I regularly use Havant for shopping and currently lock to one of the many Sheffield stands in the shopping precinct area. A cycle store on the north side of the Meridian is not the easiest of places to access, on the south side better but I would probably prefer the shop location and take a chance, especially if any substantial charge was involved..

A brilliant idea. There is absolutely no secure bike parking in Havant. We have lost 2 locked bikes in Havant, one of which was left in the station 'cage'. The proposition that the room would have a 'Paid for' secured access would limit entry to genuine users. An annual fee of £30-40 sounds reasonable. I would imagine that it would be a win-win for the Meridian centre, which might gain from the passing footfall.
David suggested that application for a space should include a photograph. The very act of sending a photo is another filter.

A difficult one, but in order I think I need 1/something strong to which to lock my bike, 2/ideally somewhere under cover, 3/somewhere easy to access, 4/it must be free of charge. If yours is an e-bike take the computer with you. There's no point in someone trying to steal it if you do that. Roger.

The best bit of secure cycle parking for the visiting public, that I'm aware of in Havant Borough, is the covered cycle parking at the east end of the Hambledon Road shopping Centre in Waterlooville. (By the tunnel to go to the Old Centre.) It's in an elevation position so it's visible from a large part of the shopping centre, has good quality cycle securing points, and bikes usually stay dry. I'm not aware of any security monitoring, but I just don't know.

A good idea I would have thought. Bike theft is a constant worry for people with decent bikes. It should enable any bike to use.
