Park Lane bridleway working party

On 20th May, eight CTC Portsmouth volunteers worked with a Hampshire County Council officer to minimise flooding and mud on Park Lane Bridleway.

PLB1In 2009 Hampshire County Council rebuilt the route to enable cycling from Waterlooville, Cowplain and Horndean to Havant Town Centre and Staunton Country Park while avoiding busy roads. Park Lane bridleway has been well-used by cyclists and pedestrians but, since then, blocked drainage channels have caused surface damage and localised flooding.

We:

  • Cleared drainage channels around the bridge over the A3M
  • Removed mud around the chicanes and repaired the surface
  • Cleared mud and repaired drainage channels at key sections to the east and west of the bridge to reduce flooding and avoid future water damage to the surface

PLB2It was a pleasant dry day with everyone cheerfully and energetically working together.

Hopefully the work will enable more people to cycle across Havant Borough both to work and for leisure.

  1. Well done to all - I've been away for 3 weeks but today I went over the A3 bridge and could see the improvements which should eliminate what was a very muddy area in the wet season.
